Remembering Al Flack: A Life of Service and Community
Al Flack, a dedicated educator and active community member, peacefully passed away at age 94 on August 2, 2025. Born in Starbuck, Minnesota, in 1931, he graduated from Starbuck High School and Concordia College. During his final year of college, he married Jean Baasen, with whom he shared nearly 71 years of marriage and raised four children.
After a year teaching in Middle River, Al was drafted into the US Army, serving two years, primarily stationed in Germany. Following his military service, he pursued graduate studies at the University of Minnesota and taught high school mathematics in Evansville and Staples until his retirement in 1987. His involvement extended beyond teaching, including roles as driver’s education instructor and athletic ticket sales manager.
Post-retirement, Al and Jean enjoyed lakeside living on Island Lake near Park Rapids before relocating to Crystal Brook Senior Living in 2018.
