How Tulsa Co prosecutors work to stop serial offenders, following recent arrest of serial car burglar

Tulsa Police arrested a man this week who they say is a serial car burglar who has been stealing from people for more than 20 years, and every time he gets caught, he gets out and starts stealing again.

After News On 6 aired the story about Keith Overstreet, there have been questions about what can be done to stop repeat offenders.

We talked with Tulsa County prosecutors about how they handle these types of cases.

Prosecutors say handling property crimes like this is important but can be challenging for several reasons. The punishment ranges are lower, oftentimes victims don’t want to testify and a lack of evidence can lead to cases being dismissed.

Keith Overstreet Arrested Again This Week

Tulsa Police arrested Keith Overstreet this week during a sting operation where investigators parked an undercover car at a park and say within 15 minutes Overstreet parked next to it and pulled on the door handle and stole several items.

TPD had been investigating Overstreet for months, who they say steals from unlocked cars at parks just about every day and has for years.
