GARRISON- Hudson Valley Shakespeare Managing Director Kendra Ekelund will step down in spring 2027 as she and her family relocate to Charlotte, North Carolina, the theater company announced.
Ekelund will remain with Hudson Valley Shakespeare through the transition, working with Artistic Director Davis McCallum, the board and staff on several ongoing projects, including completion of Artist Lodging and development of the organization’s expanded campus and hospitality operations.
Ekelund joined Hudson Valley Shakespeare in 2022 and helped lead the organization’s transformation from a seasonal theater company into a permanent cultural institution. The organization now encompasses a 98-acre campus, the Samuel H. Scripps Theater Center, The Garrison, Folio restaurant, the Inn, and Artist Lodging.
Her tenure included overseeing construction and the opening of the Scripps Theater Center and helping lead the organization’s inaugural 2026 season, which featured King Lear , As You Like It and Les Misérables . The season attracted more than 35,000 audience members.
