The inaugural Ocean Way Festival — set to be the first of its kind in Santa Monica — announced its cancellation Friday, citing Hurricane Marie as the cause. According to the festival’s Instagram, current weather conditions have resulted in coastal erosion and unsafe conditions for the event.
The event will not be rescheduled this year, but Ocean Way Festival said plans are already in the works for next year’s festival.
“We were so excited to spend a weekend together on The Beach, but can share that plans are already underway to bring the festival to Santa Monica in 2027,” the Instagram announcement reads.
The festival was previously set to take place Sept. 26 and 27 and was organized by Goldenvoice, the company behind Coachella. Intended as a celebration of Santa Monica’s beach culture, the festival was advertised as featuring music, food, wellness, design and sustainability activations for attendees. The area from the Santa Monica Pier to Bay Street was expected to host two stages featuring a blend of genres.
