The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Sunday that they successfully overcame a Hamas battalion in northern Gaza, an area that remains among the last regions not yet fully under Israeli control and where hostages are believed to be held. According to The Times of Israel, the IDF reported that they defeated Hamas's Beit Hanoun battalion after three operatives surrendered to the Givati Brigade in northern Gaza.
Since the onset of the conflict, the IDF has conducted five operations in Beit Hanoun, gradually dismantling the Hamas forces there, which numbered over 1,000 fighters prior to October 7, 2023. Most of the battalion's members have been killed or have fled, including its commander, Hussein Fayyad.
