It's been a wild few years for the coaching carousel in college football and this could finally be the offseason it comes for Indiana football.
Mike Shanahan and Bryant Haines, the Hoosiers' coordinators on offense and defense, respectively, were named as coaches Maryland should look into this offseason in a column by Sports Illustrated writer Pat Forde. They were named in particular due to their ties around the DMV area after spending several seasons under Curt Cignetti at James Madison prior to their time at Indiana.
To be extraordinarily clear, Forde's writing represents a recommendation, a musing, rather than any hard reporting that Maryland is definitely moving on from Mike Locksley and interested. It should be taken as such.
This is, of course, the kind of thing that comes with success and isn't wholly unfamiliar for Indiana as a fanbase. Kane Wommack, Indiana's defensive coordinator for that strong 2020 season, left for the South Alabama head coaching job that offseason and Kalen DeBoer, the Hoosiers' offensive coordinator from the prior season, left for the Fresno State job. Say, where'd those two end up?
