Indiana to Launch 'Speedway Slammer' Detention Center for Illegal Immigrants

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the upcoming opening of a new detention facility in Indiana aimed at housing individuals in the country illegally. She shared on social media that the project, dubbed the "Speedway Slammer," will expand detention capacity by 1,000 beds through a partnership with Indiana officials. The facility will operate within the Miami Correctional Facility located in Miami County. Noem highlighted that those unlawfully present in the U.S. could find themselves detained at this new site, named in homage to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Indiana Governor Mike Braun expressed support, emphasizing the state's proactive stance against illegal immigration and collaboration with federal efforts. The initiative aligns with recent efforts, including a similar detention center in Florida called "Alligator Alcatraz," established in partnership with Governor Ron DeSantis.
