Inpex Corporation, a leading Japanese oil and natural gas exploration firm, announced on Monday that it has awarded multiple contracts for the preliminary design phase of its $20 billion Abadi liquefied natural gas (LNG) project located in Indonesia's Masela Block. This development signifies that the project's early design activities are advancing toward a key investment decision. Upon completion, the facility is projected to produce approximately 9.5 million tons of LNG annually.
Since initiating front-end engineering design (FEED) in April, Inpex has been refining technical specifications and estimating costs related to constructing the necessary infrastructure to extract, process, and convert natural gas from the Abadi field into LNG.
The FEED encompasses four main components: an onshore LNG processing plant, a floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) system, and subsea risers, flowlines, and umbilicals. According to official statements, contracts have been awarded for all segments except the onshore LNG plant.
Two separate contractor teams, led by France's Technip Energies and Italy's Saipem, are concurrently working on the FPSO facilities in a dual FEED approach ...
