NBA Legend Isiah Thomas's Assessment of Ben Simmons Turns Out to Be Incorrect
Once regarded as one of the top players in the NBA during his tenure with the Philadelphia 76ers, Ben Simmons was a multiple-time All-Star in his early seasons. However, his relationship with the team deteriorated after the 2020-21 season. In a 2021 interview with Shaquille O'Neal on NBA on TNT, Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas discussed the situation, highlighting potential ways the 76ers might have handled Simmons better. Thomas also expressed his willingness to trade for Simmons, stating, "I would absolutely trade for Ben Simmons... He's not a damaged player. He was their leading defender, an All-Star, and led in assists." Despite Thomas's positive outlook, Simmons has struggled to regain his previous form. He was traded to the Brooklyn Nets in 2022 after four seasons with the 76ers, and later bought out his contract before finishing the season with the LA Clippers. As of early August, Simmons is a free agent, having averaged modest statistics during his recent stint.
