Basketball season is several weeks away, and already there’s much optimism around the Centenary men’s program.
The Gents got an extra boost of inspiration recently when one of their all-time greats, Sibley native Willie Jackson, paid them a visit.
Gents’ head coach J.A. Anglin was coached by Jackson at Loyola College Prep as a high school player, thus the connection between the two is deep and special.
“It was an honor to have Willie Jackson come and speak to our student-athletes last week,” said Anglin. “He is one of the all-time greats in our program’s history. Willie was a servant of Centenary basketball for a long time, serving as an assistant coach for several years at Centenary after his playing career. Very few players made as big of an impact on the program as he did.
“I think it is important for our young men to understand the rich history of our school and basketball program. Having great players come back to campus and share their stories with our group will have great influence on their careers at Centenary.”
