Jackson State's Sonic Boom of the South to Take Center Stage at Las Vegas HBCU Classic
The renowned Sonic Boom of the South marching band from Jackson State University is scheduled to perform at the upcoming Las Vegas HBCU Classic. On January 30, the university announced that its football team will compete against Grambling State University at Allegiant Stadium on October 25. Earlier, on July 31, the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning board approved JSU's plan to establish a contractual services agreement with Principal Jets, LLC. This arrangement will provide passenger charter flights for 370 band members and authorized JSU staff. The total estimated cost for the contract, covering October 24 to October 26, amounts to $447,240, with an additional $50,000 allocated for fuel. Funding will be sourced from the General and Education Funds. Jackson State’s marching band, the Sonic Boom of the South, is among the most prominent in the nation. Its vibrant performances resonate within the HBCU community and have garnered attention from celebrities.
