The premiere of Survivor 51 ended with a tribute to one of the people who helped shape the series behind the scenes.
After the season's first Tribal Council, the screen went black and displayed the message, "In loving memory of Finian Shea Johnson." Johnson joined Survivor 's editing team during Season 45 in 2023 and remained with the show through Season 51 before his death on May 25 at age 48, according to Entertainment Weekly .
Jeff Probst said Johnson arrived during a major change for the CBS competition, when Season 45 expanded episodes to 90 minutes and gave the editorial team more footage and character material to build into each broadcast.
