The Jefferson County Board of Supervisors held a brief special meeting Monday, September 21st with a single item on the agenda — approving an emergency repair contract for the Jefferson County Courthouse elevator.
The board voted unanimously to approve a proposal from Schumacher Elevator Company to repair the elevator, with a tentative completion date of noon on October 5th. The total cost of the repair is estimated between $68,000 and $70,000, with Schumacher providing a discount. That figure could change if unforeseen complications arise during the repair process.
Supervisors noted the timing of the repair is particularly important given that absentee voting at the courthouse is set to begin October 14th. A supervisor said Schumacher representatives met with the board on Friday, September 18th at the county attorney’s office and did what the supervisor described as a thorough job of explaining what happened and what steps would be taken to fix it. The company all but guaranteed the elevator would be back up and running by October 5th if everything proceeds as planned.
