The 2026-2027 NFL season got off to a promising start for the New York Jets with their victory over the Tennessee Titans. Now, ahead of their Week 2 matchup against the Green Bay Packers, the Jets have placed a key offensive player on Injured Reserve.
New York drafted wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. with the 30th overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft. Cooper thrived at Indiana last season, playing with first overall draft pick Fernando Mendoza and bringing the school its first National Championship. In 16 games in his senior year, Cooper caught 69 passes for 937 yards and 13 touchdowns.

[#Jets]rookie WR Omar Cooper Jr. is going to be placed on Injured Reserve, sources say, giving him four weeks to recover from his ankle sprain. He’ll be designated to return and should be back shortly.[pic.twitter.com/iKpPYt9wq9][September 19, 2026]
In Week 1, Cooper suited up in his first NFL game. Before he was able to make much of an impact, the receiver suffered a high ankle sprain and exited the game. Cooper appeared in just four offensive plays in which he caught a pass for 30 yards, setting up the Jets’ touchdown on the game’s opening drive.
The good news for Jets fan...
