Following the passing of Jimmy Buffett on September 1, 2023, at age 76, his Coral Reefer Band is embarking on their inaugural tour to honor his enduring legacy. Band member Mac McAnally, a longtime collaborator since 1994, emphasizes the band's commitment to keeping Buffett's spirit alive. "Our main goal is to honor Jimmy's incredible legacy," McAnally states. "He wanted the music to continue, and we aim to fulfill that wish by leaving his microphone and guitar on stage as symbols of his ongoing presence."
The band, comprising 13 members including Buffett's close associates, has performed at tribute events and will soon join the Doobie Brothers on tour across North America until mid-September. McAnally notes the special connection with the Doobie Brothers, highlighting past collaborations and shared stages.
Notably absent from the current lineup is keyboardist Michael Utley, who, along with McAnally, produced Buffett's posthumous album "Equal Strain on All Parts." Utley's son Mick has stepped in to fill his father's role, with Utley himself supporting the band's efforts to continue Buffett's musical journey.
