2 min read J ohn Mulaney wasn’t nominated for anything at the Emmys this year, but he won the whole night. At the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the comedian presented Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. It turned out to be an A-plus prompt, as Mulaney riffed on the underrepresentation of MEN on television and why it’s important to go down on a woman. Like a man.
“Since the creation of television, men have been historically underrepresented,” began Mulaney, drawing immediate laughs. “For the first three years TV existed, there were no men on it. It was just beauty contests and children talking to hand puppets. Until the early sixties, until a man walked out and said, ‘ENOUGH! My name is Fonzie and the President’s been shot!’ But let’s talk about these bros tonight. These sweat hogs.”
Mulaney then took a jab at “serious” acting (he was presenting for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, remember).
“Some of the men in this category do method acting, and some do regular, less annoying acting. But no matter what, when these fellas hit their mark, they know all their lines. Why? Because they started looking at their sides earlier that mornin...
