Joshua Brant, the independent candidate for Indiana State Senate District 23, claims to be running as “the anti-corruption candidate.” His framework for the Indiana Anti-Corruption and Government Accountability Act is among the efforts he says he plans to enact against corruption.
Within this framework are articles suggesting term limits, action to fight election interference and protections of the right to candidacy, among others.
As an independent candidate, Brant said this right to candidacy has been a struggle. As part of a party not qualified for the ballot, to run for state senate, independent candidates need signatures equal to 2% of votes cast in the district for secretary of state in the last election.
