Renowned heavy metal vocalist David Roach passes away at 64 following cancer battle
David Roach, the lead singer of the rock band Junkyard, has died at the age of 64 after fighting cancer, as confirmed by his bandmates. In a Facebook tribute on Saturday, Junkyard shared, "After a brave fight with cancer, David peacefully passed away last night at home, surrounded by his loved ones." Roach was battling an aggressive form of squamous cell carcinoma affecting his head, neck, and throat, according to a GoFundMe campaign. Just weeks before his death, he married his partner, who left her job to care for him.
Formed in Los Angeles in 1987, Junkyard included Roach as a founding member alongside guitarist Chris Gates, bassist Clay Anthony, drummer Patrick Muzingo, and guitarist Brian Baker. The band signed with Geffen Records in 1988 but disbanded in 1992. Roach rejoined the group in 2000 and remained active until recently.
