KANNAPOLIS —Deputy City Manager Eddie Smith has announced his retirement from the City of Kannapolis effective Dec. 31, concluding more than three decades of public service and 21 years as a member of the city’s executive leadership team.

Smith joined Kannapolis in 2005 and, according to the city, has played a significant leadership role during one of the most transformative periods in Kannapolis’ history. As deputy city manager, he has reportedly provided executive leadership and oversight across virtually every area of city government, including public safety, finance, human resources, information technology, parks and recreation, customer service, facilities, water resources and public works.

Looking back on his 21 years in Kannapolis, Smith said the city’s transformation and the relationships behind it will remain among the most meaningful parts of his career.
