Kentucky trooper killed in I-65 shooting, armed suspect caught

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A Kentucky State Police trooper was killed Monday in a shooting on Interstate 65 as authorities continue searching for an armed suspect.

Kentucky State Police identified the trooper as Hayden Phillips, Unit 369, who was assigned to Post 3 in Bowling Green.

The shooting happened Monday afternoon on I-65 North near mile marker 38 in Warren County, near Smiths Grove.

KSP issued a Blue Alert and identified the wanted person as Emonnie Branch. Authorities said Branch should be considered armed and dangerous.

Investigators are searching for a bluish-gray Honda Civic with Alabama temporary tag TN018596. The vehicle was last reported traveling north on I-65 near mile marker 75.

Anyone who sees Branch or the vehicle should not approach and should call 911.

Phillips was a graduate of KSP Cadet Class 103.

“His dedication to duty and commitment to the commonwealth will not be forgotten,” Burnett said.

The investigation and search remain ongoing.
