LARAMIE — Amid a giggling crowd of a dozen teenage girls, 11 heads instantly turned toward Keiran Giraldo.
If her Laramie High cross-country teammates can count on her on the course and in the classroom, why not with the media?
Naturally, the crew depended on their senior leader to field the first question.
“Our confidence level really boosted after winning the past two meets,” Giraldo said, as her teammates nodded in unison. “We have amazing runners on the team. We have Dorothy (Jensen). We have Flora (Caputo-Wilkowski). We have Kelli (McNiven). We have me. Our top seven is really just an amazing group of girls. An amazing group of athletes. Our junior-varsity team, as well, has been incredible.”
Retention benefited the unit, as only one runner graduated from its 2025 Class 4A runner-up team. A few additions landed Laramie’s way.
Several move-ins — including multi-time track state champions in Lander’s Dorothy Jensen and Burlington’s Kelly McNiven — plus freshman Flora Caputo-Wilkowski, enhanced an experienced squad.
The win streak could extend when the girls race at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Legacy Lightning Invitational in Broomfield, Colorado.
