Las Vegas youth named top 10 finalist for youth athlete award
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — An 11-year-old Las Vegas athlete is getting national recognition for his work across multiple sports.
Micah Cross has been selected as a Top 10 national finalist for Youth Athlete of the Year.
Cross, who just turned 11 in February, competes in tackle football, flag football and track. He plays running back, wide receiver and defensive back, and has competed with several local programs, including the Jr. Gaels, Vegas Flag Elite and Project Zoom.
His father and coach, Jovon Cross, said Micah was randomly chosen and that the family was surprised by the honor because of the number of athletes nationwide. He said they received a phone call letting them know Micah had been selected.
Jovon Cross described Micah as humble and quiet, and said his athleticism and ability to play multiple sports helped him stand out in the selection for Youth Athlete of the Year.
Cross said flag football is a benefit before playing tackle.
He also said the family and community have been supportive.
