Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke briefly with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the sidelines of the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in Atlanta, a contact reported by Anadolu Agency.
Anadolu Agency said Lavrov characterized the exchange as “not bad, though brief.” Rubio is hosting the U.S.-hosted ministerial, which is scheduled to continue through Saturday.
The Atlanta talks opened without a traditional group photograph. The U.S. State Department’s agenda did not list a group portrait, and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said European partners would not pose with Lavrov. Wadephul said, “There is no normality with Russia.”
