Artificial intelligence has changed the way people look things up on the internet. For Kristi Piehl, in this new era of online searching, it’s important for brands and people to jump on controlling what a AI bot might say about you or your brand.
Piehl, the founder and CEO of Media Minefield, a public relations firm based in Minnetonka, calls this Reputational Engine Optimization, or REO. During a speech at Finance & Commerce’s Women’s Leadership Summit on Wednesday, she told an audience that they need to make sure when a chatbot spits out an answer about a company, the response needs to be helpful for the brand you have curated.
“In an AI world, you can’t pay to get to the top of the search, you have to put in the appropriate inputs so that the story that is generated is accurate, authentic, helpful, benefits your career, benefits your brand,” she said during the summit
Piehl said that it’s important for women who are in leadership to be vocal on social media and to advocate for themselves, so to make up for the fact that fewer women are in C-suite roles than men. The more vocal someone is in the media, the more likely their brand is to show up in a chatbot response.
