Marlyn Buss, a dedicated farmer and agricultural entrepreneur, passed away at the age of 88 on July 11, 2025. For Marlyn, agriculture was more than just a profession; it was a way of life that he embraced wholeheartedly, living and breathing the industry daily, as his son Dan Buss reflected.
In the 1970s, after two Farmfest events were organized but lacked continuity, Marlyn stepped forward to revive and expand the initiative. He collaborated with local businesses, securing support and rights to the Farmfest name, and reintroduced the event in 1982 on his family farm near Lake Crystal. The event quickly gained popularity, becoming a centerpiece of the community and a hub for agricultural innovation and networking.
Growing up amid the farm activities, Dan recalled the transformation of the event site from an alfalfa field into a bustling fairground, likening it to a state fair.
