Here are two facts. I love this Town of Zionsville, and I see the benefits of the LEAP project.
Here is another fact. I believe the plans for handling the wastewater are inadequate and dangerous to our environment.
This LEAP project has many issues, starting with the secretive buying up of land, to the lack of clarity about the negative impacts of such a massive project. It is clear now the project had no transparency from the beginning. The positive outcomes were touted, but the negative impacts are now becoming visible. There are many questions about water use, tax rebates, electricity use, hidden costs to consumers, wastewater discharge and damage to the environment. Impacts like this did not become clear until activists exposed the problems. Our public officials were all in on the economic progress part while downplaying the rest.
The last straw for me was the recent news bulletin claiming the wastewater would not be released into Eagle Creek Reservoir. This “new plan,” to dump the water into Zionsville tributaries that empty into the reservoir, was not a solution. It was a dishonest claim of a response to public outcry. The water still goes into the reservoir.
