Glendivians scored a good one again this week. A candidates’ forum was held Thursday night at the college and it was a real success. Whether you measure by information gleaned, citizenship exercised, or entertaining viewing, it was what Montanans enjoy.
Candidates from around Eastern Montana stood up and allowed an aware audience to estimate their IQ’s, their knowledge of current problems, their grasp of reality. Montana’s educational standing and the suitability of the candidates’ personalities for public life. I wish I had been able to compare Mr. Downing and Mr. Alme with their competition who were in attendance. As a group, the candidates present revealed a deep well of smart, thoughtful, innovative, mostly young folks. Ideas most voters never consider were introduced – like some really innovative ideas of how to help our young people pay for productive education.
The program was run efficiently. Craig Anderson was the timer. (How cool: Federal Marshall enforcing the clock?) Chad Knudson, Moderator; smooth as can be. Questioning went well. Questions were submitted: Knudson handled it. Always potential for a stumble there.
