Call for Action on Asset Declaration Compliance in Liberia
Monrovia – The Center for Transparency and Accountability in Liberia (CENTAL) has urged President Joseph N. Boakai to dismiss all government officials in the Executive Branch who have not fulfilled the asset declaration requirements mandated by the country's Code of Conduct for Public Officials.
Official Responses and Compliance Concerns
In a sharply worded statement released on Tuesday, CENTAL acknowledged the compliance of the President and select high-ranking officials but expressed concern over the continued refusal of many others—especially legislators and Supreme Court justices—to adhere to legal obligations.
"It is troubling that top government officials, who swore to uphold Liberia's laws, are blatantly disregarding the very statutes they pledged to uphold," the organization stated.
Current State of Asset Declarations
While the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) reports full compliance from leaders such as the President, Vice President, Speaker, and President Pro Tempore—who have declared their assets—numerous appointed officials, lawmakers, and justices have yet to do so.
