Update: As of August 3, 2025, the Lightning Creek Fire near Hope, Idaho, has scorched approximately 1,562 acres and remains uncontained. Recent infrared surveys, conducted in the late afternoon, suggest that the actual burned area may be slightly less due to heat emissions from the landscape, which can affect infrared readings. Earlier reports indicated the fire had spread across 600 to 700 acres, with no containment achieved yet. Fire crews are actively working to control the blaze, which is rapidly expanding through the Cougar Fire burn scar, fueled by abundant dead vegetation. Residents in Clark Fork are advised to anticipate increased fire personnel presence along South River Road. Road closures along Lighting Creek Road (FSR 419) from Trestle Creek Road (FSR 275) to Regal Creek remain in effect, and a temporary flight restriction is in place. Fortunately, no evacuation orders have been issued at this time.
