Ohio Swamp Stomp, an album recorded in Maumee and released by a local dirt-folk group called Damnit Sam, is up for an Album of the Year award at the 12th annual Josie Music Awards in Nashville on Sunday.
The JMA bills itself as the largest independent, privately owned music award show.
Ohio Swamp Stomp is one of multiple finalists in the Folk/Americana (Duo/Group) Album of the Year category.
Damnit Sam is led by two Toledo natives, lead singer-guitarist Curt Wolfe and bassist Mark Wilkerson.
The group is affectionately named after Mr. Wolfe’s youngest child, Samuel, and his proclivity for mischief as a youngster.
Sam Wolfe grew up to become the band’s original bass player but stepped back from those duties when the first child of his own came along. He and his wife are now expecting their third child.
Curt Wolfe makes it clear he is proud to represent northwest Ohio’s Great Black Swamp region.
Ohio Swamp Stomp is his group’s debut release. It was recorded in February at Stone Soup Recording Studios in Maumee with the help of studio owner and Stone Soup sound engineer Eric Sills, who played on the album with several other backup musicians.
