On Sunday, the Central Pa. Chapter of American Gold Star Mothers, a national organization of mothers who lost their children while on active duty, held a reading of the names ceremony.
The names were read in the Gold Star Garden at Veterans Memorial Park in York. The reading included names from hundreds of fallen York County soldiers from World War I to the present day, including 351 killed in the Global War on Terrorism.
Mothers spoke about the meaning of Sunday's event.
Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement "I became a Gold Star Mother in 2004, when my son, Martin Wilson Kondor, was killed in Iraq," said Gold Star Garden founder Cher Kondor. "So, today, we are gathered to remember their courage, their strength, to honor their lives."
Sunday was the organization's fifth annual ceremony.
