Logan County Man Faces Multiple Charges After High-Speed Chase in Russellville

A man from Logan County faces multiple charges after leading police on a high-speed chase in Russellville. The incident began around 11:11 p.m. on Saturday when officers observed a vehicle on North Main Street that ran a red traffic light. Despite attempts to stop the vehicle, it sped away, entering the center of the road, and discarded a box onto the roadside during the pursuit. The vehicle eventually halted on Stuart Smotherman Road. The driver, 32-year-old Derek Thomas of Lewisburg, claimed he was being chased, but police found no other vehicles involved. A passenger was present during the incident. During arrest efforts, Thomas resisted, pushing against the police vehicle and banging his head against the door. He also kicked an officer in the head while being detained. A search of the vehicle revealed several empty alcohol containers, including whiskey and vodka, along with suspected marijuana. The discarded item was identified as a 12-pack of banana liqueur bottles. Thomas allegedly threatened the officers, stating he would "hunt" them down.
