Louder Than Life brings huge crowds and big economic impact for Louisville

Huge crowds packed the Kentucky Expo Center on Thursday for the opening day of Louder Than Life.

More than 240,000 fans are expected to attend the four-day rock and metal festival, which brings together music lovers from Louisville and across the country.

Thomas Biddle described the festival’s appeal in three words: “Good music, good people, good energy.”

This year, Louder Than Life takes place the week before Bourbon & Beyond. Louisville Tourism estimates the two festivals will generate nearly $40 million for the local economy.

“I think you’ll see hotel occupancies in the high 90 percentiles,” Zack Davis said with Louisville Tourism. “You’ll see the city almost sold out on specific dates.”

The influx of visitors benefits hotels, short-term rentals, restaurants and transportation services. Louisville Tourism says about 65% of festivalgoers travel more than 100 miles to attend.
