Massac County, Illinois — Man Detained After High-Speed Chase
On August 7, authorities in Illinois successfully detained a homeless man from St. Louis wanted on multiple warrants.
Chase Begins on I-24
According to reports from the Metropolis Police Department, Police Chief Harry Masse was returning from a meeting in Paducah when he observed a black Ford Mustang traveling at excessive speed along I-24 at milepost 2.5.
Pursuit and Vehicle Exit
Moments later, Masse learned from Massac County Sheriff's dispatch that McCracken County deputies were pursuing a stolen Mustang on the same interstate. Chief Masse attempted to initiate a traffic stop near milepost 38, beyond a construction zone, leading to a high-speed chase heading west.
The suspect vehicle exited onto Big Bay Road, then continued east onto Illinois Route 145. The pursuit persisted onto southbound IL-Route 145, where the driver nearly collided head-on with a sheriff’s deputy. The Mustang then veered into a ditch before resuming southbound travel.
