GRAND FORKS — A driver who allegedly hit two pedestrians and fled the scene has been arrested on three counts of attempted murder.
The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23, in the 1600 block of South 16th Street. According to a report from the Grand Forks Police Department, officers responded to multiple calls of a reckless driver who struck a pedestrian and then hit a tree, disabling the vehicle. The alleged driver was reported to have exited the vehicle and left the scene.

The report said officers apprehended Ian Matthew Schneeweis a few blocks away.
"During the course of the investigation, it was discovered two pedestrians had been struck by Ian Schneeweis’ 2007 Honda Accord, along with a motor vehicle and the entrance to an apartment building. An additional pedestrian was involved in the incident but not harmed due taking cover behind the tree that was struck by the suspect vehicle," the police report said.
The injured pedestrians were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Schneeweis was arrested and taken to the Grand Forks Correctional Center for three counts of attempted murder and other criminal offenses.
