A Hammond man was found guilty in Hamilton County Court Sept. 17 for causing a death by selling the victim a controlled substance, a felony charge stemming from a late January death in Westfield.
Kenneth Guy was found guilty during a bench trial in front of Judge David Najjar.
In a February news release, Westfield Police Department stated that officers and the Westfield Fire Department had responded Jan. 27 to the report of an unconscious man at the 500 block of Fayette Drive. The man was pronounced dead at the scene from a suspected drug overdose.
Investigators determined the man had purchased narcotics in Chicago, and they identified the dealer as Guy, who resides in Hammond. During the investigation, officers seized multiple cellphones, drug packaging materials, suspected narcotics and about $1,500 in cash at Guy’s residence. One of the seized phones was allegedly used to facilitate the narcotics transaction connected to the Westfield case.
Guy was charged in mid-February following an extradition from Hammond to Hamilton County. His trial began Sept. 15.
