SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga men's soccer opened Pac-12 Conference play with a 5-2 setback against California Baptist Wednesday night at Luger Field.
The Bulldogs (3-4-2, 0-1-0 Pac-12) scored twice in the second half behind a pair of goals from Drew Pedersen, but a four-goal first half helped the Lancers (7-2-0, 1-0-0 Pac-12) secure the win.
California Baptist opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Blake D'Agostino found the back of the net. Adam Marsli doubled the advantage in the 29th minute before Justin Ojo scored twice in the final nine minutes of the opening half to send CBU into halftime with a 4-0 lead.
Ojo completed his hat trick in the 56th minute to extend the Lancers' lead to 5-0.
Gonzaga continued to push offensively and broke through in the 74th minute. Pedersen converted a penalty kick for his fourth goal of the season, snapping a California Baptist shutout streak of 459 minutes and putting the Zags on the board.
