Taking advantage of turnovers and denying the home team the opportunity to keep momentum, the Cardinals defeated the Beavers, 35-14, in a matchup of two top contenders in the Greater Cleveland Conference.
The win improves Mentor’s record to 4-1 (2-0 GCC), while Riverside fell to 2-3 (1-1).

“We didn’t handle adversity very well at the beginning of the season,” Coach Matt Gray said. “Our guys responded the way they needed to tonight.
“It’s character. You saw the energy here tonight, the excitement, that wanting to play extremely hard and extremely physical. That was great to see. Our guys continue to grow and continue to believe in themselves and their teammates.”
Riverside looked like it had found its footing when it recovered a Mentor fumble on the kickoff to start the second half.
