Michael Kay is returning to the Yankees radio booth for the first time in 25 years, calling the expected Yankees-Red Sox American League Wild Card Series for ESPN Radio.
Kay, the longtime Yankees television voice on YES Network, will handle national play-by-play alongside analysts Eduardo Pérez and Tim Kurkjian. The series is scheduled to begin Tuesday at Yankee Stadium and could run through Thursday if all three games are needed.
The broadcasts will air locally on Good Karma Brands “ESPN New York” WHSQ (880), where Kay hosts middays, and nationally on the national ESPN Radio broadcast.
The assignment marks Kay’s return to a Yankees radio broadcast after he moved to television with the launch of YES Network in 2002. He spent 10 seasons on the Yankees radio team from 1992-2001, working alongside John Sterling.
Kay’s last Yankees radio game came in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series, also with Sterling. He said the opportunity to return to the radio booth 25 years later was especially meaningful.
