A true musician’s musician, Mike Campbell has spent the better part of his life following his muse while creating quite a musical footprint. Best known as the guitarist for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, he has carved out a niche as an in-demand session guitarist for a wide swath of artists ranging from Stevie Nicks, Bob Dylan, the late Aretha Franklin and Warren Zevon to more contemporary artists including Chris Stapleton and Margo Price.
But for the past six years, Campbell has focused his efforts on fronting his band, The Dirty Knobs. Having kicked everything off with the 2020 debut “Wreckless Abandon,” Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs’ fourth and most recent studio effort is “Mission of Mercy.”
