Mike McCarthy replaced Mike Tomlin as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ head coach, and his era got off to a good start against the Atlanta Falcons last week. Unfortunately, any momentum the Steelers built was halted by a 20-3 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday.
It wasn’t a good performance in just about any aspect, and Tomlin weighed in on it as part of his new job as an analyst.
“From my perspective, they don’t have a place to hang their hat. They haven’t established the run. They’re not performing well enough on third down, or possession-down circumstances. And to make matters worse, they’re not getting yards in chunks,” Tomlin said on NBC’s Football Night In America. “They can’t solve all their problems, but they better solve at least one of these problems, and really soon.”
The Steelers had no answers for what the Patriots threw at them in Foxboro. Pittsburgh couldn’t block, couldn’t catch, and really couldn’t do much of anything.
