Mount Vernon Nazarene University Assistant Athletic Director Paul McNeal was recognized by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission with the Victoria Allen Civilian Leadership Award during the Law Enforcement Training Symposium held Sept. 13–15 at the Dayton Convention Center.
The annual award honors a “servant leader” who works to unite neighbors and local law enforcement for the betterment of the community. McNeal, a Navy veteran and former teacher and coach, was cited for his ability to connect people, institutions, and public‑safety agencies in ways that strengthen trust and encourage service.
Assistant Chief Andy Burns of the Mount Vernon Police Department praised McNeal’s leadership.
“There are a number of things that stand out about Paul,” Burns said. “For one, I think he’s about 6’ 6’’ or 6’ 7’’, so he’s easy to spot in a crowd. But in addition to being head and shoulders above most people physically, he rises above most people in general because of his heart for the community.”
Burns added that McNeal’s dependability and humility have made him a vital partner.
