By now we’ve all heard about the fate of the Wyoming Valley Mall with plans made this past week for the structure to be cut in half to make way for future development.
It looks like everything from the center of the mall from the old Bon-Ton store to the former Sears to the food court area will all be leveled all on the main entrance side of the mall.
It appears everything from the center of the mall to JCPenney will remain in tact.
It looks like a standalone anchor store will be erected in the parking lot area.
A proposed big box store with nearly 900 parking spots and gas pumps will also be built.
With a new facelift and additional stores to be added, the struggling 1972 mall is hoping the new plans will bring more people in.
I’m not sure if the name, Wyoming Valley Mall, will be retained, and plenty of people are already speculating what the new anchor store will be.
I don’t know if all those speculating are wishful thinking or educational guessing but at this point, it’s all being kept a secret.
Of course for me, this is all too sad because I remember the glory days of the mall. I remember the packed stores, the hustle and bustle during Christmas and Easter.
