Disaster Preparedness Exercise in Dukku
To bolster disaster readiness at the community level, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) recently carried out a comprehensive flood simulation in Dukku, a riverine settlement near Birnin Kebbi in Kebbi State.
High-Risk Area for Flooding
Dukku has been flagged as a high-risk area for flooding in the upcoming 2025 season, primarily due to the presence of a river flowing through the community, heightening its vulnerability to flood events.
Objectives of the Exercise
This exercise, conducted in partnership with the Kebbi State Government, aimed to evaluate existing flood response strategies, enhance coordination among response agencies, and increase public awareness about potential flood risks. It forms part of NEMA's wider initiative to prepare flood-prone regions across Nigeria, especially in the Northwest and North Central regions.
