Nevada Governor Approves National Guard Assistance to ICE
Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo is moving forward with authorization for the Nevada National Guard to aid Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as confirmed by his spokesperson on Friday afternoon.
Details of the Guard's Role and Funding
Elizabeth Ray, the governor’s communications director, stated to the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the Guard will operate in a temporary, administrative role, with all related costs fully covered by federal funding.
Governor's Support for Immigration Policies
Lombardo, a Republican, has publicly expressed support for President Donald Trump’s deportation initiatives. In December, he co-signed a letter with fellow Republican governors, vowing to enhance national safety by tackling illegal immigration and removing individuals who threaten community security.
Clarification on Deployment Scope
Previously, Lombardo clarified that Nevada’s National Guard would not be deployed to the U.S.-Mexico border for security purposes. Instead, the Guard’s assistance will be confined to internal, non-frontline activities within Nevada.
