The City of Erie wrapped up Welcoming Week with the New American Jamboree, bringing community members together to celebrate food, music, culture, and heritage from around the world.
The event was held at the Boys and Girls Club and featured ethnic foods, cultural displays, live performances, and traditional music. Community members had the opportunity to share their heritage while learning about the many cultures represented throughout Erie.
The jamboree also included activities for children and the New American Youth Awards, recognizing young members of Erie’s diverse new American community.
Organizers and community leaders say the event provides an opportunity for new Americans to build connections, meet others, and strengthen relationships within the community.
“I think there’s a lot of connectivity. There’s a lot of brotherliness, sisterliness that is involved, so coming together within this platform is very important, and it helps us grow as a community,” said Clinton Egbemea, senior enterprise agility coach at Erie Insurance.
