New Hampshire Governor Signs Legislation Banning Gender Transition Procedures for Minors
CONCORD, New Hampshire — Governor Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire has officially signed into law two bills aimed at prohibiting certain gender transition treatments for minors. With her approval, New Hampshire becomes the first state in New England to restrict transgender-related medical procedures for children and teenagers.
Governor Ayotte stated, "Medical decisions made at a young age can have lifelong impacts, and these bills represent a bipartisan effort to safeguard our children." Despite opposition from Democratic and LGBTQ+ groups, recent surveys indicated strong public support for the measures. A July 2025 poll by NHJournal/Praecones Analytica showed 69% of voters favored the bans.
The first legislation, HB 377, prohibits the use of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for individuals under 18, excluding treatments for minors born with medically verifiable sex development disorders.
