About 200 people gathered Monday (Sept. 14) for the ribbon-cutting of “Confluence: At Home on Glenview’s West Fork,” a new mixed-media mural by lead artist Anne Farley Gaines.
The dedication took place at Shopper’s Row, 1746 Glenview Rd., in downtown Glenview.
Measuring 85 feet by 15 feet, the artwork combines paint, ceramics, and glass mosaic. Glenview Art League President Deb Anderson said community members helped paint many of the ceramic tiles during public workshops at the Glenview Public Library before they were fired in a kiln.
The project was funded by a $125,000 federal grant administered through Cook County. Anderson said the final cost came in at $105,000, and the remaining $20,000 will be returned to the county and federal government.
Speakers at the ceremony included Anderson; Cook County Commissioner Scott Britton (D-14th); Local Initiatives Support Corp. Chicago Executive Director Meghan Harte; and Christine Nappo, program manager for the Cook County Bureau of Economic Development.
“I’m extremely happy,” Britton said of the project’s completion. “It’s incredibly important to support the arts scene through Cook County.”
