A new customer satisfaction survey ranks Newark Liberty International Airport among the worst “mega airports” in North America, while neighboring tri-state hubs scored significantly higher.
According to J.D. Power’s 2026 North America Airport Customer Satisfaction Study, Newark Liberty tied for last place in the mega-airport category.
By contrast, other regional hubs fared far better in the rankings. LaGuardia Airport claimed fourth place following its multibillion-dollar redevelopment, while John F. Kennedy International Airport came in eighth.
Researchers at J.D. Power noted that top-performing airports have successfully boosted passenger approval by investing heavily in major infrastructure projects. Top-ranked airports also focused on using local food vendors and distinct interior decor to build a strong “sense of place” for travelers.
