Nic Enright's Journey to His First MLB Save
Nic Enright's path to his inaugural MLB save stands out as a remarkable story of resilience and determination. On Monday night in New York, the Cleveland Guardians' pitcher shut down the Mets in the 10th inning, securing a tense 7-6 victory and marking his first career save. This moment transcended baseball, symbolizing a victory over significant personal adversity.
Overcoming Personal Challenges
Diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in December 2022, just weeks after being picked by the Miami Marlins in the Rule 5 draft, Enright faced a challenging journey. He underwent four rigorous rounds of immunotherapy and dealt with setbacks, including a shoulder injury that sidelined much of his 2023 season. Despite these hurdles, he was on the mound in extra innings, determined to contribute.
With one remaining round of treatment scheduled for November, Enright isn't waiting for complete remission to chase his dreams. He shared post-game, "When I was diagnosed in 2022, I decided not to let that define me. For others facing similar struggles, I haven't just stayed at home feeling sorry for myself."
